Professional blogger and author Ralph Slaske showcased managing partner and Harvard Business School graduate Arturo Alvarez-Demalde by way of an IdeaMensch interview with the entrepreneur. Known as a “community for people with ideas,” the IdeaMensch website focused on Alvarez-Demalde’s wealth of experience in the venture capitalism and private equity sectors, specifically with regard to how he applies this to overseeing day-to-day operations. The full interview can be seen HERE.

“It’s always good to be practical, but being prepared to take the right kind of risk is of tremendous value,” Alvarez-Demalde is quoted as saying in the very beginning of the IdeaMensch interview. Providing backup for this perspective is his lengthy career serving in a variety of international business roles, spending close to a decade as a manager withSiemens AG near Munich, Germany before becoming a partner with Leadgate. Proficient in English, German and Italian as well as his native Spanish, Alvarez-Demalde boasts a formidable academic background that encompasses degrees from the Colegio Nacional de Buenos Aires and the University of Buenos Aires, and includes the MBA he received fromHarvard Business School. All of his values and education have manifested in multiple roles and responsibilities, including one with ARIS – an association for which Alvarez-Demalde serves as a board member – and the Harvard University David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies, for which he serves as an advisory committee member.

According to Alvarez-Demalde, the idea for the business was something that had been developing in his mind for many years, taking into consideration his education and experience. When asked about bringing his ideas to life, he says, “I’m a natural collaborator, so I try to work closely with people I respect. Many of these people seem to be exhibiting an increasing interest in ensuring entrepreneurship works to achieve clear societal benefits…and I am all for that. One habit that makes me more productive as an entrepreneur is the way I value education; I have sought any opportunity to enhance my entrepreneurial acumen.”

Some of the other eye-opening topics covered in the IdeaMensch interview included asking Alvarez-Demalde about the worst job he held (and what he learned from it), what he would do differently if he was forced to start over in his career, why he believes being prepared to take the right kind of risk is of tremendous value, the one strategy that has helped grow his business, any failures he has had as an entrepreneur and how he overcame it and which people have influenced his thinking.
