Eliot Spitzer and several other leading investors from New York participated in the first U.S. Real Estate Showcase & Forum last week in Shanghai. That gave Spitzer, once known as “the sheriff of Wall Street,” the opportunity to put some perspective on the credibility and integrity of EB-5 investors.
Critics seems to want to spotlight on potential problems with the program rather than on either the actual intent and/or results. Critics point to the potential for fraud, largely it seems, because the investors are foreign nationals. That position presupposes that American businessmen and institutions are as pure as the driven snow (like Bernie Madoff). It also presupposes that anyone else cannot be trusted.
